Lectures are all over now, and I’m a couple of months away from my Finals. Between now and then, I still have a chunk of my research report (“Discrimination of the fundamental frequency of complex tones with low fundamental frequencies“) to write, and most of my dissertation (“Internal Speech: Its’ investigation and implications“). Yay. Then revision, of course. Yay. My summer plans consist of finding somewhere to live in Cambridge (see below), walking the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path with Georgie, and probably spending some time at the Edinburgh Fringe. Then, at the beginning of September, I will be starting work at the ADC Theatre, as Marketing Manager. This mainly includes doing Whatever It Takes ™ to keep people turning up to shows (and drinking in the bar) as well as actually looking after the bar and other Front-of-House aspects of the Theatre. This was totally my preferred activity for the coming year, and I consider myself very lucky to have got the job – my colleagues-to-be are all good friends, and I love the place to bits.

Another part of the job is “Duty Managing” – for non-ADC readers, that’s looking after the place during performance nights, from 7 (when normal office hours end) till whatever-unholy-hour-the-bar-closes. Having been trained last week, I’ve got my first proper DM shift tomorrow night – it shouldn’t be too busy as they go, I hope! For the rest of the week, I’ll be spending my nights behind the bar itself, for the remaining performances and WordFest. Good money, but I’m going to end up pretty knackered, I know it. All part of the fun…
